When their father dies and the estate goes to their half-brother, Dashwood sisters and their mother are on their own. Margaret is a child but Elinor and Marianne have come of age. Their only chance to overcome their ill-fate lies in finding themselves suitable husbands. Elinor is shy and sensible while Marianne is bold and impulsive. Their natures will play important roles in their quest. They will have ups and downs on the way but will their struggle be enough in view of their circumstances? Set in Georgian England, Sense and Sensibility is a comedy of manners. Printed anonymously, it was Jane Austen s first novel. As fresh as ever, it has never been out of print since its first publication in 1811 and has been adapted for visual media over and again.

About the Author

One of all time literary favourites, Jane Austen was born at Steventon rectory, England on December 16, 1775. She started writing poems, stories and plays as early as 1787 which she compiled in three bound notebooks. Those early works were later published as Juvenilia. Then, she wrote Lady Susan, a novella in epistolary form. However, it remained unpublished for a long time. Having written Lady Susan, she penned down six novels, four of which were published during her life as follows: Sense and Sensibility (1811), Pride and Prejudice (1813), Mansfield Park (1814) and Emma (1815). rthanger Abbey (1818) and Persuasion (1818) were published posthumously. Two of her novels The Watsons and Sanditon, though published later on, remained unfinished. Austen died on July 18, 1817.
